Student Readiness Training (SRT) Updates

One new video and an updated video for Module 1 have been added to the SRT course in Blackboard. The updated Module 1 video includes more information on the delivery modes for courses including an explanation on computer conferencing courses and compressed courses. These descriptors coincide with the new choices instructors will see when creating their syllabi.

The second video gives a brief demonstration to students on how to access and use ReadSpeaker in Blackboard. ReadSpeaker is the new embedded software that offers text-to-speech capabilities for any text and document posted in a course.

Coming to a Division Meeting Near You!

AEDD is excited to offer ongoing and directed Professional Development to faculty through your division meetings this year. Due to our current reality imposed by the coronavirus, we have had to re-envision what that means for professional development. So, AEDD will be facilitating professional development during regular division meetings. We have been meeting with Deans and Associate Deans to best tailor the professional development to the needs of each division and will begin rolling this out soon. Contact your Division Office or with questions.

Jing is Retiring – Transition to TechSmith Capture

In 2019, TechSmith (makers of Camtasia and SnagIt) announced plans to end development on Jing and provide a new free offering. We wanted to let you know that TechSmith Capture is now available! What does that mean for you? (from the TechSmith website)

“With Adobe’s plans to retire Flash at the end of 2020, Jing’s current video format .swf will no longer be supported by web browsers. In addition, the Screencast sharing output in Jing will be officially turned off on July 14th, 2020 due to an issue that we are unable to repair. At that time, you will no longer be able to share content from Jing to Screencast.

As a result, we have decided to replace Jing with a new modernized tool. We encourage you to transition over to TechSmith Capture as soon as possible as this is the new platform that we will be actively developing and investing in.”
