You will then have the opportunity to explore some facts about adult learning and how knowing about andragogy helps you design learning for the adult student. It also includes an article about best practices for teaching online.

The definition, according to Merriam-Webster is, “the art of science of teaching adult.” So, no matter what delivery method, these principles will apply, but are essential to know in online design and delivery.

    Why: This short video provides you with an overview of Malcolm Knowles’ theory of andragogy or adult learning. You will learn six assumptions about adult learners, which you can use as you design your online course. For example, assumption one is “adult learners need to know why they are learning something and the benefits and risks.” This should be considered when developing learning activities and providing explanations for the activity.
