in a diverse population?
All of our Graphic Design graduates are able to value themselves and work ethically with others in a diverse
population.

Q18 - Provide any comments you have on how valuing one's self and working ethically
with others in a diverse population is taught in this program.
The Graphic Design graduates have an ethics class required for them to take. They are also often checked on by
instructors to determine their ethical use of images and references in their projects. We ask all first-year students
about ethical practices questions during our First-Year student review. For diversity, many instructors reach out to
students regarding this issue. Most first year students view the Western’s Quch Video as a part of a project that
relates to designing a diversity logo.

Q19 - How many graduates are able to make decisions that incorporate the importance
of sustainability?
All of our Graphic Design graduates are able to make decisions that incorporate the importance of sustainability.

Q20 - Provide any comments you have on how incorporating the importance of
sustainability in the decisions one makes is taught in this program.
In the Graphic Design area, instructors are encouraging sustainability by having student recycle paper, by printing at
a smaller size when possible to save on ink usage and paper usage, to print black and white copies of their work
before printing in color, and to be resourceful when using supplies. We are also continuing to encourage electronic
use instead of paper use. In various classes, student do design projects relating to sustainability and conduct their
own research in doing so. Some posters will be on view at our campus during Professional Development relating to
sustainability. As we include more sustainable topics into our classes, instructors have considered using projects
relating to issues of rest, eating habits and exercise as well.

Q22 - How many graduates are able to apply the principles of design to develop strategic
marketing and communication products and services?
All of our graduates are able to apply the principles of design to develop various products and services.

Q23 - Provide any comments you have about teaching this program outcome.
During the time students take to complete the Graphic Design Program, students are continuously designing
projects that must meet the industry standards in relation to applying the principles of design for various marketing
and communication products and services. To determine the use of this outcome, at the end of each student’s time
in the program we evaluate the Graphic Design Portfolios that students create to determine if this objective is met.
We also meet with all student during their second term in the Graphic Design Program to evaluate if they are
developing these skills appropriately.

Q24 - How many graduates are able to demonstrate proficiency in the use of design
software, tools and technology?
All of our Graphic Design graduates are able to demonstrate proficiency in the use of design software, tools and
technology.

Q25 - Provide any comments you have about teaching this program outcome.
During the time students take to complete our program, they are continuously designing projects using computer
technology. We teach classes during a students first year that focus on individual computer programs used in the
Graphic Design Field on computers that are similar to the ones they will most likely use in industry. During students
second year they use those computer skills in various combinations to design successful projects. To determine the
use of this outcome, at the end of each student’s time in the program we evaluate the Graphic Design Portfolios that
students create to determine if this objective is met. We also meet with all students during their Graphic Design
second term to determine if they are developing these skills appropriately.

Q26 - How many graduates are able to implement creative solutions from concept
through completion using a formal process?
