We discussed a wide variety of topics which was helpful. I liked the support of the teaching staff, and the varity of learning activities. The program helped me feel very prepared going into fieldwork. That the teachers were readily avaliable for you when needed to ask a question when on campus. It was a little more difficult when off campus at the fieldwork site. I liked the hands on experience along with the learning from the book in and out of class. I thought it was an overall excellant program and provided me with the knowledge I need to be an entry level COTA. Being hands on I liked that it was a spiral cirriculum once FW came around everything came together. Very informative and educational. INstructors are knowledgable and prepare you for the field. I felt very prepared for FW and had learned in depth many of the basic techniques to go into FW. Requirements were clearly laid out for each class also. Instructors were always available and willing to help. The spiral curriculum was helpful, once I got to fieldwork everything sort of clicked. I also thought the instructors were very knowledgable (Chris in particular) about subject matter. 0 Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Monday, November 18, 2013 Feedback Western Wisconsin Technical College Modality Training More hands on. More task analysis. More directions. I would suggest having one day of seminar during spring break to go over NBCOT and state licensure information early to reduce confusion. It would be beneficial to have more opportunities to interact with clients of different practices of OT (for example more interaction for pediatric or mental health populations.) I would liked to have had more in depth information for specific diagnoses to better prepare for out-patient rehab settings. ADLs, ROM, and grading avtivities was covered well, but the specific diagnoses involving the anatomy of UE would be more helpful. I honestly would not change anything about this program. I would change some of the overall assignments because some of the service learning projects were repeative and didn't seem to be very beneficial to my learning experience. I also felt certain topics could have been discussed more in depth. Also allotting a day to go over resume writing and NBCOT/State licensure processes would be very beneficial vs. having to do it online! The community service project at the LaCrosse housing was difficult to meet with and getting to know the residence, so I feel I that I didn't get as much out of it as I could have. I would keep it a 2 year program and have the summers off. It maybe a hard semester in the spring but if you have a family and friends who want to hang out then you wont have a summer. It would make it hard to decide what classes to take in the summer. I did not care for all the busy work that was in a couple of the classes. It got the be very repatitive when looking online and in books for AE. for a couple hours. I have no idea what the questions are under "Program Outcome" 0 Yes Apply mathematical concepts. Feedback Yes the teachers are good with communication, and it is a two way street. If you are not getting a hold of the teacher to ask a problem then it can not be fixed in a timely manner. Effective communication skills are very vital for success, not only are they used in the classroom yet it is carried over into your fieldwork experience as well. Communication is a key baseline for success. For the most part yes. Some of the assignments on online classes were difficult to understand, they could've been discussed with further detail. Spent a lot of time going over SOAP notes, maybe touching base on the electronic forms of documentation that are out there would be helpful since a lot of facilities are now using those. Communication is a neccessity for all aspects of the OTA program. This was integrated quite well. Teaching staff effectivly communicated what was expected of us, using a varity of methods, such as video, handouts and hands on. We learned how to communicate effectively throughout the program and I feel it helped me a lot. Presentations and group leading helped with preparing for better communication skills. 0 Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes No Yes Yes Transfer social and natural science theories into practical applications. There are many people out in the world that do not have a job and or are unable to obtain a job. OT is a growing field that helps people and is unappreciated and not recognized even though we know it enriches peoples lives. Yes, but our program was unfortunately not very diverse. Being ethical was strongly stressed. This was achieved throughout class and fieldwork. This was applied very well in our cirriculum of courses and assisted to work with a varity of populations. More pediatric involvement throughout program! Yes, you are held responsible to be ethical and just in all your actions as a therapist, as a students as well. 0 Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Monday, November 18, 2013 Critical thinking was demonstrated and followed out very well throught out the program and prepared me for my future career. I feel after finally attending Fieldwork this task was achieved. Yes, adaptation, and quick thinking is often used when working in the field in your fielwork This was true throughout the curriculum. You must be able to think critically during fieldwork and during practical exams. I think that this was shown really well with the assignments and projects. Good challenge of this during the program. 0 Yes Use technology effectively. I used learning from education throughout my entire life during this program. Spent a lot of time on theories and applying them to practical situations, although throughout fieldwork practice framework and theories were never mentioned. Very much so, you are constantly adapting and transferring theories and appliing them to daily situations. We could have worked more on this. Theories were just a big blur and were very hard to understand. 0 Yes Demonstrate ability to value self and work ethically with others in a diverse population. Feedback Western Wisconsin Technical College Technology is a developing skills and is becoming more and more vital in the health care industry. Yes every Tuesday we were on the computer for at least 2 hours looking up adaptive equipment. I have achieve this but this program did not help me use technology effectively. We used technology effectively for many different situations throughout the program. Could expose students to electronic documentation. For the most part. My second fieldwork rotation was not necessarily somewhere COTAs work within...but it was a unique situation where my supervisor quit her clinic job to become a private Early Intervention provider. Yes we are given multiple case studies and oppurtunities to practice mock treatments. 0 Yes Value life-long learning and the need to keep current with best practice. Strongly stressed Ethics is very important when working with people therefore this was achieved throughout the program. Yes Yes, this is key in all you do. LOVED the field trip for AgriAbility! Yes, decisions are constantly made that require critical thinking to develop a plan that will best fit and contribute to the particular situation. Yes 0 Yes Yes Practice within the distinct role and responsibility of the occupational therapy assistant. Feedback Western Wisconsin Technical College It is key to keep up on cont. education. that is how you will keep up on the learning. Yes, life long learning is taught to be important and a continual process, what you learn today and tomorrow will contribute to the overall picture, but you need to have the determination to continue learnign even after graduation and hwen working in the field.
