Monday, November 18, 2013 14 100.00% 0 0 Feedback Achievement, in the context of learning a basic massage protocol, is alright. I realize from the course and the time frame that the content must be limited. Achievement, satisfaction with the "program" must necessarily draw on elements of the program. I am deeply dissatisfied when I consider what an absolute waste of time the entire Pathology course has been, or the poor focus, rambling approach Business Practices was handled. I would recommend AGAINST the Massage Therapy program at WTC. Learning massage. recieiving massages Short duration and inexpensive. I thought it was a great complimentary program for other health professions. I thought there was a lot of valuable science related coursework. wide range of content covered well in short period of time. I liked the various people that came in as guest speakers. The Salvo textbook was very resourceful. I enjoyed learning the different modalities and learning about different work environment options. I enjoyed clinic for the most part, and really enjoyed recieving massages so that I could know what techniques I felt were most useful and which ones were not. I liked having the whole class together for all classes and that there were a few instructors throughout the year. i liked the structure in the classes and how the information was presented. I liked the multiple guest speakers that were brought in throughout the year. I liked how in-depth the work concerning muscles, bones, and other body structures was. While fast-paced in many areas, it is understandable for a year program. 0 Western Wisconsin Technical College Page 1 of 8 Outcome Yes No Unk NA Result Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Monday, November 18, 2013 Western Wisconsin Technical College Feedback WTC really needs to look at the instructor's competence in pathology, muscles/anatomy, and business practice. She may be a fine practitioner, but is not able to effectively instruct; I don't believe she really knows the material of the courses mentioned above. While I understand that this is about the program and not the instructor, this one instructor conducts the program a majority of the time. These courses will be a part of our national board exam and few, if any of us, feel we've been well prepared for the patho component. The time frame for some classes is fairly demanding. Two hour-long musculoskeletal anatomy and kinesiology have been experiences in mental endurance. I would like more exposure to other modalities. Writing a business plan (a part of this second semester) is an excellent idea, but the guidance leading up to our writing was The grades to be in a timely manner. The class needs to be organized. I would make the program more structured and have more classes for pathology and kinesiology i would add more structure to the pathology course but over all i like the way everything was ran I feel that we learned the basics of massage therapy through our coursework and clinical experience. There were some challenges and frustrations with delays in receiving our grades and test scores. Sometimes we went weeks before we knew the results of a test/grade. The instructors for Kineseology and Body Structure and function were able to post grades for almost all coursework within 72 hours at the most. Another major issue with this program was the Pathology class. We were primarily self-taught. While some might view this as an effective learning process, we should not be paying for the class as an onsite class, it should be an online option. Another consideration might be to incorporate pathology curriculum with body stucture and function so that the pathologies can be learned right along with the systems. All in all there I feel that this program has prepared me for a succesful career. There are just some organization issues that need to be addressed. I would add medical terminology as a class to take. It would be helpful when it comes to Pathology, Kinesiology, Anatomy, and Body Structure and Funtion. I would like to see Kinesiology and Pathology stretched out over 2 days a week at maybe and hour and a half at a time rather than for 2 hours at a time 1 day a week. more time on specific subjects, more body structure and pathology I am not particularly happy with some of the organization regarding inputting grades and timeliness of coursework. I would strongly advise that that be tightened up for next year (e.g. inputting scores in a timely fashion, posting assignments when students are told they will be posted, etc.). I wish that the classes were during the day not at night. The first semester schedule was hard to manage with work and home life and the late night classes are exhausting. I would also suggest more time focusing on the paperwork for the licensure exams and the business element of the class. Page 2 of 8 Outcome Yes No Unk NA Result Yes Yes Yes Use effective communication skills. 13 92.86% 1 7.14% 0 Organization is a major issue for Jeanne. Things need to be graded, posted and turned in, in a timely manner. Instead of Pathology being one 2-hour class a week, it should be broken down into 2 class times at 1 hour each...the same should be done for Kinesiology. These 2 classes were difficult and the way they are currently conducted did not work for me and a lot of my classmates. Pathology pretty much felt like we had to self-teach ourselves...Out of all the classes, Pathology is the one class I had the most difficult time with...honestly, I feel like I haven't learned a lot in that class. The hardest thing for me to deal with was the set up of different assignments. For the larger projects I work best being presented with a guide of all of the expectations and the bigger picture of what is the final project should look like. This was not always done and hindered my understanding of some of the work we were doing. It would have been nice to actually have a schedualing program for massage appointments for the students to operate. Set up specific rules to follow and have the students fill in clinical time as the receptionist. There was no instruction for the students to learn that part of it. Some students have no experience with that prior to this program. Break up Pathology between 2 semesters. There is way too much information to learn in one semester. Possibly include a introductory medical terminology class. That would be very help full in more ways than one. 0 Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Monday, November 18, 2013 Feedback Western Wisconsin Technical College Communication was not clear. The program lacked in communication, we relied on eachother often We had problems with black board. Our instructor would post on the website and not everyone in the class would receive what was posted. It led to some frustration in the class. I thought that I effectively communicated with the instructor when I needed something. I did find it difficult to hear back from my instructor and it took a long time for grades to be posted. For the most part, communication and asking questions/sharing knowledge is welcomed; I did not feel, in a couple of the courses, however, that my input was valued or even encouraged. Massage Lecture is very confusing and lacts structure. communication was amazing online was vary excusable and i could call my instructor any time which i like. but i also like having all the same people in my classes because we could use each other for studying and doing home work. yes I now know how to communicate with clients and with peers on a more intellectual but casual way. I learned how to call clients prior to appointments, use face to face skills for intake purposes, and communicate with peers on recommendations and questions about different modalities. Jeanne would say that she would post something on Blackboard and it would never get done or it would take forever for her to post it. Again, organization!!!!!!!! Page 3 of 8 Outcome Yes No Unk NA Result Feedback No Yes Apply mathematical concepts. 12 85.71% 2 14.29% 0 Lectures are pathetic. Delivery is rough, hesitant, words are mispronounced, and wrong information HAS BEEN PRESENTED. We are appropriately corrected (points deducted) for incorrect spelling and punctuation. But I would expect that this instructor practice what she preaches. Rather, we are presented with protocols, syllabi, tests, assignments and other reading materials in which these errors occur routinely. The result for the program is confusion or misunderstanding rather than learning, lessened regard for and confidence in what we're learning. I am able to apply mathematical skills while recieving money during clinical hours working as the desk clerk. yes Managing the clinic office handling money and balancing the books. During clinic hours we were expected to count the money at the end of the night. i applied mathematical concepts when putting my business plan and when running clinic This was done well and thoroughly. Business plan lecture was a mess and stucture was none existant. Really no math involved for the most part...Some numbers in business class and a little bit in Body Structure and Function and Kinesiology. 0 Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Transfer social and natural science theories into practical applications. 14 100.00% 0 0 0 Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Demonstrate ability to think critically. 14 100.00% 0 0 0 Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Monday, November 18, 2013 Clinic uniforms are out dated. We had to work with many different types of people. We were also expected to take different science courses regarding the human body. This is a very hands-on program, everything we learned was more or less directly related to our professional working environments. Well done. The clinic was particularly useful in this regard. Clinic practice helped with applying social theories to our practice... i used the sciences that i learn when massaging my clients during clinic to inform and help the clients with there problems. Western Wisconsin Technical College i beleve the testing made me think critically becuse it made you think out side of the box. The clinic was helpful here. During our massages we have to evaluate what we feel in the body and suggest different stretches that may help improve our client's concerns. I am able to decide what i think clients need and make referals to them based on my finding for stretches and whatnot. I am able to apply test taking skills during reviews for the national exam and during tests throughout the program. We had to think critically in public clinic and in our Body Structure and Function class and our Kinesiology class. In most aspects, yes. Being a non-traditional student, however, I do not think that this program was as challenging intellectually as it could and should be. Clinic helped with this 0 Yes Use technology effectively. Feedback we all worked amazing together no matter what was happening at home or in the clinic We took many ethics courses and were reminded of what was ethical throughout the program. We were also encouraged to perform self cares. Our class was diverse in ages. I learned that it is never to late to change careers and that I will forever want to be a learner. I enjoyed being treated with respect and I am confident that others feel as if I am a respectful person. Well done. We heard from a panel of speakers of various ages, abilities and from diverse backgrounds. clinic and service learning helped with this yes After my experiences with public clinic and service learning hours, I feel more confident in being able to perform my job ethically with many different people. 0 Yes Yes Yes Yes Not a lot of technology going on in this program... yes we used all sorts of technology Also well done. I would encourage more media interaction other than strictly powerpoints, however. Program was not very relevant to this. more would be nice There is no technology. I mentioned that point prior, there needs to be a update for the program in that area. Society doesn't run on paper anymore. Power points and videos were used to enhance our learning. I would like to see more technique tools used so we know what to shop around for when we are on our own. More class time to work on assignments and business plan would've been helpful. I emailed my instructors, used blackboard, and other study tools. Yes Yes Yes Yes Ummmmm.... I know how to pace myself rather than wear myself out. Good. This was talked about and the instructor was always there to answer any questions about what we were feeling. Also well done. clinic also really helped with this lots of this, love clinicals Through public clinic, I have learned and have become confident in myself to apply appropriate techniques according to the client's therapeutic needs. we learned everything we need to be a successful in a job setting Using the intake forms to discuss with clients what they are looking for and make suggestions when useful. The clinic sessions were a great way to put myself in the role of a practioner. The clients' feedback was valuable measure of progress or areas in which to improve. 0 Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Implement knowledge of human anatomy, pathology and kinesiology in the practice of therapeutic massage. 14 100.00% 0 0 0 Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Monday, November 18, 2013 Western Wisconsin Technical College clinicals yea Pathology- NO! There was very little instruction with pathology and application. We were self - taught for the most part. Very frustrating to pay a tuition for the course and then do most of the instruction on our own time. I think future students would benefit from this program if it were taught by Isiah or Scott instead. I received extensive training in this program for human anatomy and kinesiology...I do not feel that I got adequate knowledge in Pathology, this course needs to be revamped. I think more practical application needs to be applied in this area; while it is currently sufficient, I believe that more integration of practical application is needed. i felt these corses were great in educating me for what im going to do in life Pathology needs to be taught better. Very good application. The multiple teachers in this program could benefit the students by sitting down and evaluting the course ciriculum and remain on the same page. For the benefit of passing the national exam and having better educated students leaving Western. I was acutally surprised with the amount of a & p classes associated. It was a much more science heavy than I had expected going into this program. Page 6 of 8 Outcome Apply knowledge of assessment criteria in order to adapt massage to a diverse population. Pathology needs to be broken down and looked at more in depth. The student body wants to learn more, instead of teaching themselves, or just filling in a blank test from an open book. Thats just going thru the motions, not being taught. I know what contraindication is...however, because of how Pathology was taught, I am usually unsure if something is a contraindication or not, but over time I may develop a better understanding of them through experience. Good. This comes with practice. I'm glad that I've had at least the exposure to clinical situations to practice that skill. i feel i would need to look up a clients condition if presented with it more pathology background There were helpful books available for our use Pathology was not applied in a way that made sense in our field. I would've like to see a more practical application for this course. 0 Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes No Monday, November 18, 2013 i learned multiple techies for all areas of the body and feel that i am ready. Clinic yes Public clinic and our Salvo textbook has helped with proper assessment of diverse clients. We were certainly able to apply our knowledge of assessment criteria; our population wasn't greatly diverse, however. Good, but I also think more focus is needed in this area as well. 0 Yes Educate client on post massage care (use of hot/cold, stretching, hydration, etc.) Feedback Western Wisconsin Technical College yes I feel confident in this area...perhaps showing more post care ideas in class such as stretches would be useful. This was an enjoyable aspect of the clinicals. Very good, though I would encourage instructors to offer more suggestions to prospective therapists as to how they can apply different suggestions to clients. this was also a part of clinic and worked very well. clients enjoyed it as well as I did i feel like i am able to provide the proper after care methods Feel that there could have been more emphasis on this. Someone with a PT OR OT background may feel more comfortable with this, however, those of us who are new to this field could have used for reference material, instruction on suggested stretches, etc. Page 7 of 8 Outcome Implement universal health precautions for infection control in the massage environment.
