Additional comments provided by respondents, if any, are included after each table. Section - General Overview of Program Instructions Provided To Respondents We appreciate your feedback, comments and suggestions. The information you provide will strengthen our program. Thank you. 1. What did you like about this program? hands on (0000000716 Anonymous) I like the instructors and how they tought the coarse's. I like the fact that it was a lot of hands on work and that we actually had realistic cars to work on to simulate a real problem with at car. (0000000719 Anonymous) i liked all of the hands on work that we got to do. (0000000721 Anonymous) I liked how in-depth the program was, as well as how thoroughly stressed doing things the right way was! (0000000726 Anonymous) i liked how they let us try and figure out a problem before they would step in and point us in the right direction (0000000710 Anonymous) I liked learning how to build engines and transmissions i belive that being able to actually tear apart the engine and transmissions helped me understand how the actually work. I also liked learning how to diagnoise problems using scan tools. (0000000713 Anonymous) It was fun (0000000724 Anonymous) Most of the instructors were pretty helpful and open to questions. (0000000717 Anonymous) Rebuilding (0000000723 Anonymous) slow learning (0000000712 Anonymous) The automotive program is a very good program. I liked that it starts everyone out at the same level, from the basics and work your way up. the instrustors are patient and helpful with students and push us to excell and be proud of the work we do. the program not only teachs teqniques but about what it is like to be in a real life real world senario. The amount of shop time is helpful in that manner as well. I also felt that the instructors in this program took the chance to get to know each and every one of their students abilities and cared about them and their success. (0000000718 Anonymous) The biggest thing i liked was that we were able to work on our own cars (0000000709 Anonymous) The hands on lab time. (0000000714 Anonymous) 5/20/2013 3 The hands on work and the knoledgeable staff. (0000000711 Anonymous) the hands on, being able to take something appart and see all of the internal parts, helps to understand how it works. (0000000722 Anonymous) The hands-on work and learning (0000000715 Anonymous) the thing that i liked the most about this program is that you had time to work after class and also the ability to talk to the instructors at any time that you wanted. Not including durring the school hours. also the fact that this course was mostly hands on working in the shop and not just sitting in the class room talking about it and taking notes. (0000000720 Anonymous) This was an amazing program and im very happy i decided to enroll. I loved being able to want to come to school everyday, knowing that i would actuall be out working on cars and not just sitting in a classroom. I also liked being able to have any tool we could possibly ever need, because growing up we didnt have much more than the basics. The instructors were amazing and super knowledgable, I'm very happy i chose this program. (0000000725 Anonymous) 2. What would you change about this program? combine several classes (0000000714 Anonymous) I think all the classes should be extended. There's alot of information to cram together in a short period of time (0000000715 Anonymous) i think that more time would be great because near the end of every course it seemed like we were rushed (0000000709 Anonymous) i think that the classes could be longer, like more weeks. I think that we should have covered a lot more on hybrid vehicles. (0000000721 Anonymous) I think that their needs to be better notes for lectures. I also belive that the program should consider adding a year or at least a semester where all you do before you graduate is work on customer cars, it would basically be like working in a shop you would come in punch in work 8 hours and punch out like a real job that i belive would allow the graduates of this program that much more of a headstart to thier careers. (0000000713 Anonymous) I would change more real world applications in the second year and less lab sheets. Small classes for more one on one with the teacher. (0000000711 Anonymous) I would change the amount of time it takes to finish the program. going more into debth in some areas that are more critical to an automotive technician to be successful. (0000000718 Anonymous) I would change the length of the coarse's and make them all longer to be able to comprehend what we learned in the classes a little bit better. Also the fact that it seemed like some of the classes over lapped and it seemed like we learned the same thing in a couple of the course's. (0000000719 Anonymous) 5/20/2013 4 I would get rid of the rebuilding classes. (0000000717 Anonymous) less students per teacher (0000000712 Anonymous) More diagonsis (0000000723 Anonymous) More time to get stuff done, better support from the main campus (the support that that we as automotive tech. students in general, and myself as a veteran in particular was A JOKE), and more access to more current technology! (0000000726 Anonymous) Not really anything (0000000724 Anonymous) nothing really it jus gets to be a long day after being here all day then going to work after (0000000710 Anonymous) one thing that i would change about this course is to have more time working in some of the classed because the small amount of time that you get to work on things there is too little time and way too much to cover so you cant get a good grasp on things. also instead of having on class once a week have it be a hour or two like three to four days a week because it is hard to remember everything that you were talking about the week before. (0000000720 Anonymous) some of the tools are very dated or not very user friendly. i feel that the strut compressor could be dangerous due to the way the top protion of it is made. if something wasnt set up just right it could have the potental to tilt and let the spring fly. they make much better ones. the head of the one in bay B can tilt out. All that does is make it difficult to use. (0000000722 Anonymous) The only thing i wish i could change is some of the people that attend this program. It frustrates me when students show up late everyday or skip class, but still get the same grades as me with no penalty. (0000000725 Anonymous) Section - Western Technical College Core Abilities Instructions Provided To Respondents This section addresses the college core abilities. Comments All the teachers are very knowledgable and i learned alot during my time here (0000000715 Anonymous) At one point we had a problem and it ended up with a few of us students meeting with the dean and we feel as if our opinion was not being heard. We wanted more training so as that it would benifit us in the automotive field, but by the time we could have done something it was to late because it was to close to the end of the year to be able to schedule. (0000000719 Anonymous) I enjoeyed rebuilding engines and transmissions (0000000714 Anonymous) i feel political oppininons should be kept out of the class room. The tools could be updated some, some of them are outdated. The standard should stay the same acrosse the bord. If one persone doesnt pass because of attendance, the other person shouldnt. One example is this last year, one student missed quite a few days due to work that was being done on his house, another student missed quite a few days due to being sick, but only the student that was sick didnt pass the class. (0000000722 Anonymous) One of the instructors, who will remain nameless, was not up to par with the others. I feel somewhat sleighted because of this. (0000000717 Anonymous) Overall i loved it and i dont think i would have changed a thing, im actually sad to know that my time here is over, but now i get to go work and make good money doing what i love. (0000000725 Anonymous) The automotive technician program is excellent! The support at the main campus is sub par in regards to actually supporting us in regards to our needs. It's a miracle they know we even exist! The veterans representative was virtually impossible to get ahold of unless we pounded on their door, and whoever put the veterans club together seemed to have either forgotten or flat out didn't care that there were veterans in the automotive technician program, because we were never made to feel like we were a part of the decision making process! In no uncertain terms: the support from the main campus for the Auto tech. program SUCKED!!! (0000000726 Anonymous) try to find a differant coverall company, i had so much trouble just trying to get them to spell my name right let alone the right size. (0000000720 Anonymous) With we went over things in class more instead of getting handouts upon handouts (0000000723 Anonymous) you should keep this a 2 year program instead of going to tri mesters (0000000710 Anonymous)
