Q3 – What did you like about this program?
Learning, hands on
The shop-like feel of the course.
I enjoyed all of the hands on time I got to spend working on cars. I think the instructors did a great job since this was the first time they have taught their classes in a 5 week period instead of a 7 week period. I enjoyed the shorter class days compared to last years students. Overall I’m very satisfied with the program and the education I received.
we worked on real cars and fixed real problems
I liked being able to work on vehicles
hand on experience and the instructors came out of the field
Time was cut in half with the tri-mester
The course offered excellent hands on experience and a plethora of useful and applicable information.
Instructors willingness I help students and the real world experience they had.
Hands On Time.
The ability to understand vehicle operations, problem solving, new technologies, vehicle maintenance, rebuilding engines, instructors teaching abilities, and etc.

Q4 – What would you change about this program?
You should have students using what they are learning the whole time that they are in school, instead of teaching them something then they don’t use (or need) for a year and a half!!!
working on more real world things (like customer work)
The process for completing work was overly complicated and took longer than it had to. A lot of courses that were offered in the new trimester system were not well planned out and often left instructors and students scrambling to complete tasks.
Schedule.
more time no ac delco crap
More newer vehicles to work on, more flexibility in the shop, and new tools and equipment possiblility?
More lab time and less repetative learning objectives. Doing the same testing for multiple courses
More focus on running it like a shop and not focusing on trying to incorporate homework and projects and self evaluations none of which relate to a shop setting and escpecially not grading them so heavily and strictly
More break when we are going to school all year round
I would have liked to be able to use the dyno more. I think it’s a very useful tool that could have been implemented in many ways to expand our learning. I also didn’t like how crammed some of the classes were. Some of them were far too short and it was hard to learn all of the material in the amount of time we were given.

Q26 – Provide any comments you have about learning this program outcome.
This class was very hard to get the full understanding of in 5 weeks.. Automatic transmissions are very complex and to cover all of their characteristics in 5 weeks is insane, let alone understanding transfer cases and differentials all in the same 5 weeks. Xxxxx did a great job of trying to get through everything but it just wasn’t enough time.
Need more time with auto transmissions

Q28 – Provide any comments you have about learning this program outcome.
Xxxxx was a very poor teacher for this class. I had to teach the majority of the system to myself. If it wasn’t for my prior knowledge of the system and drive to teach myself, I wouldn’t have a great understanding of manual transmissions.

Q39 – CONCLUSION Please use this space to share any other feedback, comments, or suggestions about your experience at Western Technical College.
Overall I had a great time at Western Technical college. I learned my program very well and am very confident going into the field with the skillset, work ethic, attention to detail and professionalism I have acquired here.
it was great i went in to this program barley knowing how to change oil now i am confident i can fix almost any problem i am give this is a GREAT program
adam remke was a great teacher and I wish i had him for more courses
More about car then I thought it would be. Need to have plans for new course like the hybrids and help the new teacher when they couldn’t answer our question.
The student internship program that Western tried to impliment in the last semester of the Automotive Tech course was not well planned out. Students were given 30 days to find a compliant workplace to complete their internship and most of the employers weren’t completely clear on the course requirements. For a lot of students, it was left for them to “fend for themselves” which just made things harder than it had to be. The Automotive Trade Simulation course was not well planned out either. The “RO Package” required students to fill out information which would not be pertinent in the “real world” (which was what this course was supposed to be geared towards). Students also would often have to fill out a non-numbered RO, a numbered RO, and their digital RO package, ultimately taking time away from repairs. It is important to know how to complete a repair order, but it is completely unnecessary to fill one out three times. There are many things that could be improved and fine tuned.
