2016 Spring ESIM IEM Student SLO Assessment Survey
ESIM Spring 2016 Student SLO Report Spring 2016 - ESIM - Industrial Electronics Maintenance April 29th 2016, 10:25 am CDT Q3 - What did you like about this program? The program has great content paced program with reasonable assignments and work. The hands-on technical skills and content are both appealing as well as taught in an effective and retentive manner. What I liked most about this program was all the hands on tasks and experiences I was able to gain while being enrolled in ESIM-IEM. The instructors were very patient with us in the beginning and weren't afraid to get "get down and dirty" with us to help us better understand what it was that we were doing. Once I start my career after this, I have no doubt that I was prepared properly to succeed at my career as well as life applications really. i liked the teachers and i learned alot The course load itself. Having enough work to do outside of class, but at the same time having enough time to go to work. I liked the fact that I could a step ahead in life within a short period of time. I'm a family man and couldn't afford to take two years for an education. I also think the instruction is top notch. I loved the amount of contact time we had with the teachers the teachers and the material Q4 - What would you change about this program? Minor changes with applicable content specified to our field. The only thing I would really change, and I'm pretty sure its already in place, is adding HVAC to the program. Also, a troubleshooting class only wouldn't hurt either. me and alot of the students feel it would be nice to have a trouble shooting class More items that you can take apart/troubleshoot. more physical examples in the mechanics side of the course. I would have replaced a few of the classes with an HVAC and troubleshooting semester. Now I have to come back in the fall to complete those courses. I would change the analog feedback systems to incorporated something different than PID's as it was hard to understand troubleshooting class Q6 - As a result of this program: I have learned effective communication skills. Answer % Count Strongly Disagree 0.00% Disagree 0.00% Neither Agree nor Disagree 0.00% Agree 57.14% 4 Strongly Agree 42.86% 3 Total 100% 7 Q7 - Provide any comments you have on effective communication skills you learned. We had to give presentations in our Occupational skills class and thoroughly explain how certain systems worked with Intro to PLCs and in our Industrial Controls class so communication has been a big part of this process. XXX pushes us to really be orginized and communicate properly Q8 - As a result of this program: I am able to apply mathematical concepts. N/A Q41 - CONCLUSION Please use this space to share any other feedback, comments, or suggestions about your experience at Western Technical College. Very satisfied with my overall educational experience with Western Tech. I would recommend this program and this school to anyone wanting to be in this field. It was a good experience and I know this process has helped enhance my life for the better. I would like to say thanks for everything to all my instructors and to this institution. we realy need a trouble shooting course we could do with less welding in are field we need to know how to wire feed weld and even then it doesnt have to be perfect it just has to hold i would change the welding to a one credit course and maybe mearge mech drives n pumps and gear boxes alot of the labs in those classes are the same thing over and over i feel i only learned from XXX’s lectures it would be alot to cover but less labs more lectures i feel i would learn what i need to to be sucessful and we really need a trouble shooting class and those are the ones i would pull time from Have a class that has a variety of devices that can be taken apart by the students to understand how they work. EX: Gear boxes, Cylinders, Electric motors. Pumps... Go to a scrap yard! I'd like to thank all my instructors for the hard work and dedication that they put into being educators. It definitely takes a special person to be able to do this job, and I couldn't be more happy with the program and my outcome with the program. I found the experience enjoyable for the most part but I feel as though some of the teachers had favorites and I usually was not one of them
