I did enjoy this program, although everything that i learned from high
school was taught once again here. I had exactly the same text
books and content and it was more of a review for me then anything
from i came here. I got easily bored and probably should have
applied myself better. I have had so much more experience in the
agriculture/horticulture area in high school then here. My initial plan
was to just get a degree and a paper stating i got some form of
secondary education. But for those that haven't had my experience,
i'm sure they found this program fitting.
This was a great experience which allowed me to further my
knowledge
to a great extent and get a job in a field enjoy. Well worth the effort
Hands-on activity
Array of topics
The large area of different topic that were decussed in coarse over
the past two years
I was able to learn the skills needed to excell in the landscape
horticulture field. As well as learn of the opportunities for
employment inside of this field.
I loved the program! I think the instructors are highly knowledgeable
and capable and the curriculum is fairly sufficient to provide skills in
the landscape horticulture field.

I would like to see some more experience with hands on work. Work
that is larger scale projects, and following through the whole design
process all the way up to installation and maintenance.
Somethings... material is given so loosely and not explain well in
class. I'm sure you'll have to do outside of class studying on your
part. But how the content is delivered, i feel that it should be broken
down better.I think there should be a plant science class as well.
Need more plant science in a seperate class.
Nothing I feel the program was a very good program
Inflexibility of some professors, lack of wanting to grade something
they are unfamiliar to. If we are learning something, they should be
willing to learn something new too.
No more trends class.. pointless. More plant science. Sustainability
should be more fine-tuned to horticulture.
Thinking Critically was the most useless class ever.
Certain classes should be offered more than once a year so students
have more opportunity to complete them on their time.
Joyce Cielecki should teach more. She should be a full-time teacher,
with full-time benefits. Joyce is the best teacher, and deserves
recognition.

I feel this class wasn't very useful for the program
My course is meant to make you think and consider. Designing
project is one example of this. Critically thinking should be an
everyday process.
Some thanks to Thinking Critically and Creatively.. yes I can think
critically.. I still stand by it being a pointless class. However Joanne
was an excellent teacher.
Yes, the Ethics and Thinking Creatively and Critically requirements
have helped a lot with that.

Use technology effectively.

Yes,this trait is needed when working and dealing with/in the
environment i'm in. So applying these items i do feel i have achieved.
Decision making and problem solving science issues?? What?

Demonstrate ability to value self and work
ethically with others in a diverse population.

I struggle with math but the teacher i had was absolutely great. He
broke everything down in more then one learning style. If you apply
yourself properly and get the needed help, math concepts shouldn't
be an issue.
Yes, although not much math is required for this program.
Math is important, but for a 4 year program. An individual math class
should not be required for this program. The math skills we need
should be incorporated into the classes.

Demonstrate ability to think critically.

Yes, very much. I've learned a lot on how to use computers to
communicate, and in class requirements doing presentations also.
I have taken 3 speech classes. I can communicate just fine.
Yes, but i feel that there should be a way for first years to be taught
how to get around blackboard and so on. My think critically class
made us do an online program to perpare us for the class. I think that
new students first coming to western should have to do this to help
then perpare.

Ethnics and Diversity should not be taught by an American from the
middle of now-where in Kansas. I was the only person of color in my
class, and knew more than the teacher did, just based on being in a
military family. I have travelled more and met more people than the
instructor ever will. I know how to demsonstrate self value, and work
ethically with others, no thanks to Ethics and Diversity.
There are a lot of group projects i'm involved in, therefore, the ability
to work with others ethically in diversified settings is cruial.
Yes, my entire class has from the beginning been friendly, helpful,
courteous. I've made good friends in the course of the two years I
have been here.

This class was taught well by Peter Bemis. But I would have liked to
learn more about design styles; japanese style, mediterranean style,
southwest landscape style, cottage garden style, xeriscaping. Not
just how to letter, how to draw and color a tree or a shrub. He was far
too critical in this class. He needs to understand not everyone is at
his level of design skill.
Each client and project i have had; forces me to instill these
materials. I believe i have gained a well rounded knowledge.
Yes, feel very competent in that due to the program requirements.

This class was the class Peter Bemis taught the best. Because he
knows the most about it. Not interested in the topics, but learned a lot.
Many new techniques
Loved it! It will be helpful to have a seperate location to do
construction projects that can be installed, uninstalled and installed
again!

Demonstrate knowledge of plants, including
their; selection, placement, planting,
maintenance, and plant health care.

Yes, I am more sustainable in everything I think about, or decisions I
make due to being made so aware of it.
Sustainability was taught by Jean Petri. Nice lady, no clue how to
teach sustainability. I learned most of it form my own research.
Very good topic in the program very useful in today world
Sustainability is one factor that most promient in my field.
incorporating such matter should be a nature thing by now.

Apply principles of landscape design and
knowledge of plant material into landscape
design drawings.

I learned to use Dynascape. Before this program I was already
capable of using technology effectively.
Very much so, its important that you learn it and learn it fast.
Especially in design classes, your grade depends on it.
Being a non-traditional student, I feel I've learned a HUGE amount of
different technologies! I found the people in ASC to be very helpful in
that.
Very much so

Woody Plants, and Herbaceous Plants were my two favorite classes.
Learned a whole lot.
Definitely, design projects can't be don't or properly created without
the right knowledge of plant selections.
Yes, very capable due to program requirements and extremely
knowledgeable teacher (Joyce Cieleki)

Turf.. do not like it. But I could tell you how to keep it alive and
flourishing.
I found this to be rather.... dull so my own interest in it wasn't there.
There were a lot of new concepts that i didn't understand well so i
feel that i didn't get as much from it as i should have.
